A neck pillow either keeps your head from snapping forward every time you doze off in an upright seat, or it doesn't — and the five shapes below take genuinely different approaches to solving that. A classic U-shaped foam pillow, a wraparound design built to stop side-to-side lolling, and a bendable roll all show up here because none of them work equally well for every sleeping position.
Every pick has real flight-tested purchase volume behind it, which matters more for this category than most — a neck pillow that feels fine in a living room can still fail completely once it's been compressed in a carry-on and pulled out three hours into a red-eye.

The patented double-support design wraps further forward than a standard U-shape, giving your chin something to rest against instead of just your neck — which is the part of sitting upright that actually wakes people up. It's bulkier than the others here, but it's the one most likely to get you through a full nap without a jolt.
A straightforward memory-foam U-shape that does the basics well and has the purchase volume to prove it — tens of thousands of these move every month. It's the safest default pick if you're not sure which shape suits how you sleep yet.
Trtl replaces the foam ring entirely with a soft wrap around an internal support strut, worn more like a scarf than a horseshoe. It's the most different design on this list, and it solves a specific problem the others don't — keeping your head from tipping sideways toward a window or an aisle neighbor.
A 26-inch bendable memory foam roll that you twist into a U, an L, or a flat cushion depending on what you actually need it for — behind the head against a window, under the lower back, or looped around the neck. It's the most flexible option here in the literal sense.
The cheapest pillow on this list, and the highest-rated of the five — proof that a basic memory foam U-shape doesn't need a premium price to do its job. It's an easy one to keep a spare of in a car or a work bag without thinking twice about the cost.
Shape matters more than fill material for most people — a pillow that suits how you actually sleep (chin-forward, side-leaning, or straight back) will beat a fancier foam in the wrong shape. Machine washability is worth checking before buying, since these end up against airplane headrests and get dirtier than a bedroom pillow far faster. And a compact carry clip or loop is a small feature that matters a lot in practice — a pillow that has to be stuffed loose into a bag tends to get left behind.
